    Brainstorm Blog Topics

    The first page of the planner is all about brainstorming a blog post topic.  As a blogger, sometimes coming up with a blog topic is one of the hardest steps to getting started.

    I can't tell you how many times I've sat down to write a blog post only to stare at "the blank page of doom!"

    By brain storming post ideas a few months, or even a year in advance, you'll never have to worry about coming up with a new topic on the spot again.

    Here’s what each of these sections means:

    Keyword / Blog post topic

    This is where you choose your keyword or blog post topic (duh, right?).  Like I mentioned earlier, we choose a lot of our topics around keywords that people are searching for.

    That way traffic to each of our blog posts can grow over time.  For instance, we wrote a blog post around the keyword “timesheet templates”.

    When we launched the post, it didn’t get much traffic.  But over time, that traffic grew to over 5,000 visitors per month.

    Keyword Difficulty

    The Keyword Difficulty is a very rough estimate on how hard it is to rank a particular keyword on the first page of Google. It is typically on a scale of 1 - 100 with 1 being very easy and 100 being almost impossible.  In Ubersuggest, a free tool I recommend, the term is called “SEO Difficulty”.

    Search Volume

    The search volume is the approximate number of times the keyword is searched for every single month.  The more search volume a keyword has, the higher the potential traffic to your site.

    Audience Sophistication

    This might not apply to every business, but for those that it does apply to, you’ll want to have a clear idea of the level of sophistication of the audience that you’re writing for.

    For instance, let’s say that I am an ecommerce business that sells Skis or Snowboards.  There are various levels of experience that you could write for.  

    You wouldn’t give the same advice to a beginner as you would for an expert.  The tips would be different, the equipment would be different, and the locations they’d go to would be different.

    What Type of Post Will You Write?

    When it comes to the type of content that you can create, there are a lot of options to choose from.

    This section just gives you something to think about.  Sure you can always do a list post… but you can also make it more interesting and write a case study, or create an infographic.

    How will you make this post better than what’s on the first page of Google? 

    This is a question we ask ourselves before we publish every single post.

    Our goal for content is to rank it on page one of Google.  Google wants to show the absolute best content to their users.  In order to replace content that is already on page one, your post has to be better than what’s there already.

    There are a few ways to do this including, making the content more thorough, providing stats and data, and incorporating your own experience.

    Weekly To-Do List

    With each post, I like to plan out what I’m going to do to promote it.  The weekly planner features a series of daily planners. 

    So, in the weekly to-do list section of the blog planner, I have a list of action items that I need to take each day in order to make sure the post is properly promoted. 

    For instance, my weekly to-do list would look something like this:

    Monday:  Publish new blog post

    Tuesday:  Promote in Niche Forums

    Wednesday:  Create Social Media Posts

    Thursday:  Blogger Outreach

    Friday:  Run Facebook Ads

    (Some of these things take longer than a week, so I just make sure I get everything set up.)

    Monthly at a-glance Blog Planner

    Sometimes you need to zoom out in order to plan ahead.  So, the Entice Blog Planner comes with a monthly planner that you can print out and fill in publishing dates for upcoming blog posts.  You can think of this as an editorial calendar.

    For me, I like to publish less frequently than most bloggers.  So for the Entice blog, I will set the editorial calendar up so that I have a post scheduled once or twice a month. (Depending on the size and scope of the project I'm working for).

    However, if you're someone who publishes weekly or more than that, then you'll be able to see what post you need to write and when you need to write it.

    This takes all the guess work out of your blogging schedule.

    Next up is the SEO checklist.  

    This just ensures that our blog post or content is optimized for search engines.

    While there is a lot that goes into SEO content, there are a few things that we make sure we do for every single post that we publish.

    Blog Promotion Checklist

    The key to reaching your monthly goals and yearly goals as a blogger is to promote the heck out of your blog posts.
